The objective of this study is to describe the evolution of innovation financing in Cuba in recent years, particularizing in the experience of the Science and Innovation Finance Fund (FONCI). The work is based on a theoretical framework that describes the rationality of financing innovation, emphasizing the need for public support for these purposes, and the particularities that this acquires in Cuba. In a second moment, are synthesized the most relevant characteristics of innovation financing in the country, reflecting their evolution in recent years. From this, is described the role played by the FONCI in the Cuban national innovation system; the institutional framework under which it operates; the operations carried out and the scope and limitations that have accompanied its performance.
