SALGADO GARCIA, Lorenzo y LAUCHY SANUDO, Armando. Public Budget, Financial Crisis, Unemployment, and Lack of Fiscal Federalism in Mexico. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2019, vol.162, n.2, e2. Epub 08-Ago-2019. ISSN ISSN.
For the last twelve years, economic decision-makers in Mexico have been incapable of guaranteeing high-paying jobs for work force, which has resulted in the emergence of a huge regional and local imbalance in labor market. 2009 financial crisis caused financial problems to worsen, and the Mexican labor market to become weaker. This can be more clearly seen in payment rather than in supply of jobs. In addition, immigration of Mexican workers to the United States, which has been continually occurring since 1950 and has intensified for the last 35 years, and the rapid expansion of informal economy are strong indicators of the failure of neoliberalism. This work examines pro-cyclical economic policy in Mexico, financial crisis causing a slow growth of the economy, and its impact on fiscal federalism and entities’ indebtedness.
