AYELEN ALMADA, Julieta y HERNAN RECHE, Federico. Growth, Development, or «Economic Miracle»? Contributions to a Historical and Structural Analysis of the Reality of the Situation in Peru. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2019, vol.162, n.2 Epub 08-Ago-2019. ISSN 0252-8584.
This work critically measures the performance of the Peruvian economy since the beginning of the new millennium, which has been called by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund «the Peruvian miracle». Neoliberal propaganda, which encourages other Latin American countries to follow the Peruvian «example», hides this Andean country’s historical and structural features that allow this «new» growth experience to be considered a repetition of economic growth cycles associated with mining activities which have characterized Peru’s economic history. «The Peruvian miracle» as a growth stage of international market conditions makes Peru´s economy more dependent on raw material supply for the development of capitalism.
Palabras clave : Latin America; commodities; structure of production; mining; Peru.
