The article presents the analysis of the evolution of self-employment in Cuba from 1976 to the present. It describes the essential characteristics of each stage with its advances and setbacks. It is also part of the debate on the role of self-employment in the country's economic development, based on the study of regulations and the results of field research. Finally, it looks at the legal regulations put in place in December 2018 and their shortcomings.
