The purpose of this contribution is to reflect on the new epidemiological situation facing higher education. It analyzes the development of COVID-19 in the world, how it has affected the closing of schools for education in Latin American and Caribbean countries, specifically in Cuba. It is carried out an analysis of the new challenges that higher education institutions, students, professors and family have to face. New methodologies and information and communication technologies (ICT) are proposed, to face the new situation of confinement and to continue with the process of distance teaching-learning and as pedagogical tools to be used in the future.
