HERRERA, P et al. ULTRASONOGRAPHIC CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF RIVER PREGNANT BUFFALOES. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2007, vol.29, n.2, pp. 111-117. ISSN 0253-570X.
Thirty five pregnant buffaloes (Bufalypso breed) between 3 and 7 years of age were used in this study. By ultrasonographic appearance, the conceptus was examined trasrectally each week, using a real-time, B-mode, diagnostic ultrasound scanner ALOKA- SSD-500 equipped with a 5-MHz linear-array transducer. The study was conducted from 1 to 10 months. The results obtained in this study support the concept that manual palpation (more than 90%) and transrectal ultrasonic scanning serve as accurate techniques for the determination of bovine fetus age and development. The application of transrectal real-time ultrasonography, as a research tool to study buffalo reproduction, represents a technological breakthrough which has changed our understanding of reproductive biology in buffaloes.
