Abstract

DELGADO, Irma et al. PRESENCE OF ANTIBODIES TO BOVINE LEUKOSIS VIRUS IN HERDS FROM THE CENTRAL AND WESTERN PROVINCES OF CUBA. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2009, vol.31, n.1, pp.24-28. ISSN 0253-570X.

The objective of this work was to carry out a serologic study of several adult bovine herds selected by their potentiality for trade. A total of 597 sera samples of healthy adults, coming from Pinar del Río, Habana, Ciudad Habana and Villa Clara was analyzed by an Indirect ELISA. The 25.9% of the samples studied was positive to antibodies against BLV. The results obtained coincide with previous reports for the region, where there is a high prevalence of antibodies to this virus. The study allowed to obtain information about the presence of antibodies to BLV in adults. The results suggest the necessity of carrying out a survey in order to determine seroprevalence in representative herds of the whole country, keeping in mind that the major economic impact of the disease is on the international trade.

Keywords : enzootic bovine leukosis virus; ELISA; leukosis; antibodies; bovine.
