MARTINEZ, Siomara et al. HUMAN RESOURCES STRAINING ON BIOTECHNOLOGY FOR THE ALBA COUNTRIES: ANIMAL BIOTECHNOLOGY PhD PROGRAM. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2009, vol.31, n.2, pp.133-136. ISSN 0253-570X.

An important part of Biotechnology development is the training of human resources at all levels. Preparing our countries to meet and the development of these technologies and their impact on agriculture is an objective of priority of this PhD on Biotechnology for Agriculture, Animal Mention. The variety of scientific disciplines involved in the development of biotechnology requires the contribution of experts from areas ranging from classical genetics to innovation in biotechnology industries, passing through cellular and molecular biologists, biochemists, microbiologists and bio-informatics. The social impact of this technology requires a reflection on the ethical and legal aspects that raise its development, hence the inclusion of the ethics and philosophy of science, as well as the criteria for Intellectual Property. Agricultural Biotechnology is a tool of particular importance to achieve the agroalimentary sovereignty of the countries members of ALBA, thus training talents at the highest level in the area will definitively contribute to achieve this goal. Moreover, the diffusion of knowledge in Agricultural Biotechnology will enable our people moving closer to a scientific discipline that was virtually restricted to large international corporations of science and technology. In this paper, the design of a doctoral program curriculum is presented for the training of high-level professionals capable of planning, managing, directing, developing, implementing and evaluating scientific research, technological innovation and production in the area of animal biotechnology with the aim to enhance sustainable and endogenous development promoting people security and food sovereignty specifically the countries members of ALBA.
