ROJAS, Niurky et al. IDENTIFICATION OF Trichostrongylus colubriformis AND Oesophagostomun columbianum IN GOAT IN CAUTO VALLEY, GRANMA PROVINCE. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2011, vol.33, n.2, pp.118-120. ISSN 0253-570X.

In order to identify Trichostrongylus and Oesophagostomun species affecting goats in Cauto Valley, Granma province, 75 Creole and crossbred animals were researched; and coproscopy was carried out using Mac Master technique to determine the load of eggs per gram of feces (e.p.g.), then proceeded to gutting the animal for the collection of all the adult parasites in the intestines (small and large) for further characterization and identification. Gender identification of adult parasites was conducted on the basis of such things like: general morphology (size, color, shape) and body location. Species are identified based on the morphometric characteristics of the male spicules and the structural identification of the cervical crown and cephalic vesicle. For the morphometric identification, specimens were immersed in lactophenol solution in order to clarify the external structures. The key structures for identification were observed and quantified. The results show that goats from Cauto Valley are infested by two gastrointestinal strongylid species (Oesophagopstomun columbianum and Trichostrongylus colubriformis), where the species Oesophagostomun columbinanum was characterized for having more elongated spicules than Trichostrongylus colubriformis.

Palavras-chave : gastrointestinal strongyles; Trichostrongylus colubriformis; Oesophagostomun columbianum.
