Abstract

Rabies is a zoonotic disease reported by the World Health Organization with a high mortality in Africa and Asia. Studies conducted in Angola in the decade 1930-1960 refers dogs as the main transmitters of the disease diagnosed in wild dogs in the laboratory. In recent years, there has been a large number of cases in the country, having a major impact on public health. This paper analyzes the behavior of human rabies in 2007 and 2009 in Huambo, and data were obtained from the records of the General Hospital, Department of Public Health, annual reports of the General Provincial Directorate of the Institute of Veterinary Services and reports or do Huambo Township headquarters. The indicators analyzed were the cases of human rabies, number of bites and animal vaccination coverage. The largest number of cases occurred in the town of Huambo Headquarters and the age group most affected was the group of 1-10 years. Data statistical analysis was carried out using multiple comparison of proportions. in spite of showing an increase in the number of vaccinated animals this did not result. It is concluded that it is necessary in to increasing rabica cases and control of this zoonotic disease in Huambo province, as well as to implement educational activities in communities.
