Abstract

SANCHEZ-CASTILLEJA, Yolanda M; RODRIGUEZ DIEGO, J.G; PEDROSO, Miriam  and  CUELLO, Sandra. Serological simultaneity of Neospora caninum with Brucella abortus and infectious bovine rhinotracheitis and viral diarrhea viruses in herds from Hidalgo, Mexico. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2012, vol.34, n.2, pp.95-100. ISSN 0253-570X.

The objective of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of Neospora caninum in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico dairy cattle stables and the serological coexistence with Brucella abortus and bovine infectious rhinotracheitis and bovine viral diarrhea viruses. Five hundred blood samples of Holstein - Freisan dairy cows were taken randomly by venipuncture, for analysis by immunoenzymatic test (ELISA). Seropositivity to N. caninum was 54.2% (271/500). The serological coexistence of N. caninum and B. abortus and infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) and bovine viral diarrhea viruses (BVD), resulted in 21.2% (106/500), 30.6% (153/500) and 33.6% (168/500), respectively. These data warn about the elevated existence and co-existence of circulating antibodies against N. caninum with the serology of other agents, thus it is essential to have a comprehensive program of sanitary herd management, which will result in greater production efficiency.
