Abstract

BULNES, Carlos  and  CALDERON TOBAR, Ángela. Lesions associated to the Enzootic Bovine Hematuria (EBH) in animals of abattoir (slaughterhouse) of Bolivar province, Ecuador. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2014, vol.36, n.2, pp.97-105. ISSN 0253-570X.

With the objective of studying the anatomopathological alterations in bladder and oesophagus of bovine sent to the abattoir, 228 animals from different cantons of Bolivar province were analyzed. Macroscopic injuries in these organs were classified according to the gravity of lesions and grouped into four categories. The samples taken for the histopathological study were fixed in 10% buffered formalin, embedded in paraffin wax and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The lesions associated to EBH were observed in 53.5% of the affected organs at Babahoyo slaughterhouse, which indicated the high frequency of their presentation. The morphopathological results of the animals from the affected areas evidenced the presence of injuries and neoplasias from vascular and epithelial origin, mainly with different severity degrees (p<0.05) in urinary bladder 77.9%, in oesophagus 14.7% and in both organs 7.4%, which confirm the clinical diagnosis of affected animals regarding this disease in the region.
