BETANCOURT, Arsenio et al. Quality Management System in Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2014, vol.36, n.3, pp.189-195. ISSN 0253-570X.

The quality of the analytical results is ensured from taking sampling followed by transfer, analytical determination, quality control and reporting the results. At present all these activities are managed as a system. With the aim of providing excellent scientific - technical services, two veterinary diagnostic laboratories at National the Center for Animal and Plant Health (CENSA) implemented a Quality Management System (QMS) to demonstrate the technical competence of laboratories and the validity of their results. It began with the fulfillment of the good laboratory practice sections and other requirements of the Quality Management System implemented by CENSA according to NC ISO 9001: 2008, as well as the technical and management requirement incorporated in accordance with NC ISO / IEC 17025, together with biosafety requirements required by the National Regulations. They formed an integrated management system covering laboratory activities and support areas of the center. All activities were documented as general procedures for document control, audits and inspections, corrective actions, installation and maintenance of equipmenst and procedures addressing the specific test methods, validation, nonconforming work, among others and records of all proceedings. A greater link was achieved by the staff of the Quality Management System, involving much more researchers in the selection and validation of the tests. The mycoplasma diagnosis laboratory achieved the certification accredited by the National Accreditation Body of the Republic of Cuba, for mycoplasma detection assays in biological products, which meant a recognition of the technical competence strengthened by its international prestige. The two mentioned laboratories are considered by the Veterinary Medicine Institute in Cuba as National Reference and both have been recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
