Abstract

TORRES GONZALEZ-CHAVEZ, Mitchell et al. Frequency of neoplasm presentation in canines of the municipality of San Miguel del Padrón, Havana, Cuba. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2015, vol.37, n.1, pp.39-46. ISSN 0253-570X.

This work was carried out in the municipality of San Miguel del Padrón (SMP) of the province of Havana with the objective of determining the frequency of presentation of tumors in canines according to their sex, age, race and tumor localization. The data were obtained from the consultation registrations in a veterinary clinic of the municipality of SMP. For the diagnosis, the biopsy by aspiration with a fine needle was used. Of a total of 52 tumors examined, those of genital localization were the most frequent (36,5%) and statistically superior (p£0,05) to the rest of the analyzed neoplasms. They were followed by the mammary tumors (23,1%), cutaneous neoplasias (17,3%), and neoplasias in the oral cavity (9,6%) and with other localizations (13,5%). The most affected dogs were female (67,3%) and cross-bred (38,5%). The age average of the dogs with neoplasm was of 6,5 years, and the most affected ages ranged from 5 to 10 years (48,1%).The highest neoplasia percentages occurred in cross-bred canines with 5 to 10 years of age, being the females as the affected sex. The tumor of venereal transmission was the most frequent genital tumor in the females, whereas in the males, no differences were observed between the occurrence frequency of the tumor of Sertoli cells, the skin carcinoma, the mastocitoma or the tumor venereal transmission. The mammary tumors affected the fourth and fifth left teats in a higher proportion, while the tumors appearing in the cutaneous tissue were basal cells carcinome, the mast cell tumor, the melanoma, and the lipoma.

Keywords : neoplasms; frequency; anatomical localization.
