Abstract

CAMEJO ZAMORA, Maikel; POMPA NUNEZ, Alberto; VAZQUEZ ALFONSO, Yasser  and  MORALES CASTILLO, Yoel. Automated calculation of the integral electric vector of the ventricular cardiac activity in equines. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.1, pp.39-45. ISSN 0253-570X.

The electrocardiogram is a valuable tool in the study of the cardiac electrical activity, and localization of the integral electric vector average (IEV) of the complex QRS is an important aspect for the diagnosis of cardiovascular alterations. The aim of the present work was to design an algorithm allowing the automated determination of the position of the average EIV of the complex QRS in equine. Twenty seven electrocardiographic registers of equines were collected and the net QRS voltages measured in the derivations V1c, V5c and V6. The calculations were made by means of a computer and manually after taken the pseudocode to the Java language through the environment NetBeans IDE 8.0. The results showed that there were no differences between the numerical values when the data were processed by the two methods used. It is concluded that the algorithm presented is reliable regarding the steps to follow for determining the position of the average IEV of the complex QRS because in comparing the results obtained by both the computer and manually, all the values coincided completely in all the cases. Thus, if the length of the waves recorded in the monopolar derivations V1c, V5c and V6 is measured, it is possible to calculate the spatial orientation of the IEV of any of the electrocardiographic waves. That corresponding to the complex QRS is located in the second octant, in cephalic direction.
