Abstract

REMON-DIAZ, Dianys; GONZALEZ-REYES, Dayaimi  and  MARTINEZ-VASALLO, Ailin. Evaluation of the hygienic-sanitary quality of raw milk by flow cytometric methods. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2019, vol.41, n.1, e07.  Epub Apr 01, 2019. ISSN 0253-570X.

The development and application of modern equipment in the quality based raw milk payment system of the world dairy sector contribute to the improvement of the quality of the raw material and dairy products. BactoScan FC® and Fossomatic MinorTM are automated equipment that measure the hygienic-sanitary quality of raw milk by flow cytometry with proven reliability. In Cuba, a minimum threshold for the hygienic-sanitary quality has been established through the Methylene Blue Reduction (TRAM) test and the qualitative somatic cell count (CMT). The objective of this work was to evaluate the hygienic-sanitary quality of raw milk by BactoScan FC® and Fossomatic MinorTM equipment and their relationship with the conventional TRAM and CMT methods, established in the quality payment system. For this, 1,540 samples of raw milk from the tank were analyzed by automated and conventional methods. The results showed that, for the hygienic-sanitary quality parameters, 83 % and 87.5 % of the samples analyzed were above the specification parameter established by the International Dairy Federation. There is a high correlation between the results obtained by the automated methods and those used to pay for the quality of the milk. The equipment evaluated in this study can be an alternative to be used in the quality based raw milk payment system in Cuba because they provide results in less time and with better precision.
