DOMINGUEZ LOPEZ, Ernesto; AKIRA DE LA PUENTE, Carlos  y  BARRERA RODRIGUEZ, Seida. Hispanics and U. S. Elections: the New Bone of Contention. UH [online]. 2014, n.278, pp.119-135. ISSN 0253-9276.

Ethnic minorities have become the most publicized topic in the current North American domestic policy. The evident differences, and the low level of assimilation of many of them, derived from the recent migration flows, have generated breaking lines around which many of the political campaigns and contradictions in such scenario are articulated. Among those groups, the so-called Hispanics, or Latinos, are the most important and debated of all minorities. Their influence within the society and the political system tend to increase, due to their characteristics, dynamics, and fast growth. Presidential elections of 2012 showed that they are already a key factor, regarding the peculiarities of the North American system. Consequently, the recruitment of such electorates becomes a priority for the immediate future of the main parties in the country.

Palabras clave : hispanics; minorities; electoral system; political system.
