The present essay attempts to perform a review by the critical reception that Nicolás Guillén's work has had in Cuba in the period between 1930 and 2004. Thus, an analysis has been performed in terms of the epistemological and thematic issues as to the critical approaches of the writer's plays; all of which has proved that, generally, the criticism towards Guillén's work has not abandoned the usual approaches in pursuit of examining the less worked poetic areas of the author from Camaguey.
