Abstract

LOPEZ CIVEIRA, FRANCISCA. Over Here I Do my Duty. UH [online]. 2016, n.281, pp.172-179. ISSN 0253-9276.

The following article provides an analysis on the thinking of José Martí, framed in the development of the Necessary War and projections considered the apostle should be present in the construction of a new Cuba as a sovereign nation. This will allow us to understand the anguish with which Martí wrote to Market on the subject, indicating the cultural, social and historical importance to the West Indies, and especially Cuba should occupy in the American world. Undoubtedly, Martí was aware that this was a fixed-term struggle, a project that could be achieved if done on time.

Keywords : Cuban Revolutionary Party; culture; independence; patria; Netherlands.
