This paper is aimed at revisiting the economic thought of Che Guevara on the transition to socialism under the conditions of a capitalist developing country. Much of this thought speaks of the need for the most efficient methods of economic management to be used in order to build the desired new society. They should be directed towards transforming the material basis of society, and, at the same time, creating a new man and woman with social consciousness. The historical context in which the young Che Guevara lived and the historical context in which Che lived his adult life when he decided to join the Cuban Revolution, becoming a major figure of it, are examined. Finally, emphasis is put on the need for his thought to be bore in mind in this difficult time for Cuba which is plunged into the context of neoliberal globalization. Major characteristics of his thought are presented in the conclusion.
