Resumen

HAMADE, Sultán. Lebanon’s 2018 Elections: A change or a status quo?. UH [online]. 2019, n.288, pp.65-79.  Epub 01-Sep-2019. ISSN 0253-9276.

This article provides an analysis of the complexities of Lebanon’s fragile consociational political system that was prompted by French colonialism. In addition, the author discusses the accumulation of socio-political and economic contradictions behind the development of the current political and constitutional crisis that started in 2014. Furthermore, this article debates the political polarization and deadlocks among governing elites that resulted in a delicate mutual agreement that lead to the construction of a new parliamentary electoral law in 2017. Moreover, it sheds the light on the controversial new electoral law and the results of the May 2018 parliamentary elections.
