Abstract

HERNANDEZ GOMEZ DE MOLINA, Adriana. Voices and Memories that Make History The Jewish Community of Cuba during the First Half of the 20th Century in the Work of Margalit Bejarano. UH [online]. 2019, n.288, pp.91-104.  Epub Sep 01, 2019. ISSN 0253-9276.

From the 90s of the last century, the rebirth of the Cuban Jewish community coincides with the renewed interest of authors, both Cuban and from other latitudes, to tell the story of the Hebrew presence in Cuba from the testimonies of the survivors of what was the prosperous Cuban Jewish community of the first half of the 20th century. The work we present is an approach to the particular way of telling the story from the memory in the work of Margalit Bejarano, where from the voices and memories of its protagonists, who -although Jews-, were grouped into different organizations according to their place of origin, language, ethnicity or ideological affinities, you can reconstruct the broad spectrum of the Hebrew community in Cuba, which even in its most splendid moments, was far from homogeneous.
