The coronavirus pandemic triggered a drop in global prices for hydrocarbons and updated the discussion on the prospects for the energy transition and its impact on different economies. Energy exporting countries, including Russia, face new systemic challenges that require other strategies and state policies. Global changes in energy markets can pose not only threats, but also create opportunities, although their implementation will depend on the ability to coordinate their policies with other countries in the face of a changing world order and serious socio-economic challenges.
