Modernity brought about a change in the gnoseological representation of the world, shielded by reason as the epistemological source of truth and scientific work. This paper deals succinctly with the precepts and causes under which epistemology took the gnoseological preeminence in the exercise of theorizing, the limitations exposed by the critical theory of epistemology based on traditional scientific theory and reason, as well as some epistemological problems presented by traditional and critical theory when they appeal to reason as a source of truthfulness.
