Abstract

GOMEZ VASALLO, Clarisbel. Sociology and Psychiatry: Open Paths and Notes that Invite Dialogue. UH [online]. 2022, n.293, 8.  Epub Mar 03, 2022. ISSN 0253-9276.

The article presented here seeks, above all, to visualize the need to strengthen the links in the Cuban context between sociological thought and psychiatric thought. In this sense, it is an invitation to dialogue that starts by pointing out the main contributions of sociology to the study of mental health-illness processes during its evolution as a field of study. Through the use of bibliographic analysis tools, fundamental works of foreign and Cuban sociological and psychiatric thought are reviewed. It is concluded that sociology in the country has little approached to the processes of mental health-illness, even when there are not scarce researches that, from psychiatric thought -especially from an epidemiological perspective- make use of methodological and sociological tools to inquire into reality. However, sociology could contribute much more to the understanding of these processes.

Keywords : thinking; relationships; mental health-illness.
