The transition to the New University in Cuba constitutes a process framed in the current questions about the role of the university as a social institution. The article starts from the teaching experience of the authors and goes through the theoretical references on pedagogy and cultural studies. An integrative look is carried out at the educational processes of higher education in Cuba. The inductive-deductive method, the documentary study and the application of semi-structured interviews to students of the University of Havana were privileged. The main conclusions reaffirm Pedagogical Theory and Cultural Studies as decisive theoretical sources to understand the challenges facing the New Cuban University in an increasingly globalized context. Likewise, it is concluded that Technicality positively influences teaching, as long as it is focused on the contents that are taught, and not as a support course.
