This article deals with the theoretical elaboration about valuation as a modal semantic category that is being carried out by the Group of Semantic Studies and Discourse Analysis of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the University of Havana. It proposes to approach the existing relationship between aesthetic conscience and the valuation the emitter utters in the aesthetic domain, by means of the characterization of both elements intervening in the relationship. The result of this analysis permits to corroborate the validity of the definition of the aesthetic domain in the referential dimension of the valuating meaning and to propose a definition of aesthetic valuation as a modal semantic category.
