The ecclesiastical council of Havana, founded in 1789 as part of the process of dividing the Cuban diocese and founding the Havana, was one of the key pieces of the island´s ecclesiastical history. Grouping, in essence, the most prominent of the high clergy of Cuba, it was an ecclesiastical government corporation with a profound impact on the political, social, economic and cultural dynamic of colonial society. The capitulars of the ecclesiastic council of Havana stood out for their American counterparts, evidence of the high standard of living of the Havana society of the time. This article proposes to carry out a prosopographic study of the high clergy of the Havana diocese that sheds clarity on a group of questions not yet defined by the historiography about our colonial past.
