The present research focuses on the study of the imprint of positivism as ethical-philosophical doctrine in the historiographic work of Emilio Bacardí Moreau (1844-1922), where his Crónicas de Santiago de Cuba, represent one of the systematizing exponents of the colonial history of the former capital of the Eastern Department. In this way, the inquiry deepens in Bacardí's critical perception analysis on the possibilities of history as a fundamental component in the reflection of social development, when understanding the historian's work directed towards the future materialization of a better homeland for the Cubans by means of the libertarian wars in the last third of the 19th century.
