The cultural institutions and, especially, universities, are to offer alternatives of action that will allow men to develop in the new scenarios in an efficient manner. To this aim, a proactive, rather than reactive, institutional management is critical; thereof, university extension, acknowledged as a process that promotes culture in its widest meaning, needs an efficient management. That is why the present work is aimed at showing the transformations implemented in the management process of university extension in the University of Havana, and which has contributed to increase its quality. Theoretical methods (historical-logical and the systemic approach) and empirical methods (document analysis and participant´s observation) were used.
