The present article addresses the research and innovation issues in the university, its relation with doctoral training and its contribution to the social and economic development. The article stands for a better integration of PhD training with university research, and of the PhD issues with relevant research projects. Some considerations are stated aimed at strengthening university research, to train more physicians and to achieve an important impact as to the economic and social topics in terms of the contribution to an inclusive sustainable development in Cuban conditions.
