The program of Cordoba university reform, designed in 1918, constitutes a paradigm for the Latin American universities´ projection towards their social environment, the concern for national issues and the continent´s union. The present study performs a critical analysis on the impact of such program and its theories in the history of the Latin American university, especially Cuba. Several contributions were achieved in the theoretical-conceptual framework related with the evolution of the extracurricular concept, mostly in terms of the strengthening of the institution´s social function through the university process as to the transformations undergone regarding its perspective and university-society interaction.
