This paper examines the theoretical and conceptual framework for university quality, and the need for its systematic assessment. It presents major assessment and accreditation visits undergone by Ecuadorian higher education institutions, placing emphasis on the features of such visits, and commendations received by the State Polytechnic University of Carchi, and steps it is going to take for constant quality improvement.
