In this paper, theories on how to select executives at universities, and ways in which they are selected in practice are identified with the aim of comparing them with the ways executives are selected at the Salesian Polytechnic University of Ecuador (UPS) in particular. How to search for candidates, what criteria are applied to select them, how the selection process goes, and how executives are trained, are the main things which are compared. Finally, major differences between executive selection process at the UPS and in other institutions are presented and analyzed for improvement.
