The Seniors College (CUAM, according to its acronym in Spanish) offers an educational program for senior citizens nationwide. In Cuba, there are still social prejudices against the elderly, which is why these need to be empowered. This research is aimed at presenting the theoretical and practical principles of the educational program offered by CUAM, which promotes community empowerment. Community empowerment or strengthening is defined from a Latin American psychosocial perspective. Some documents about theoretical and methodological foundations of the program were analyzed, 30 elderly students living in Havana and making up an intentional sampling were interviewed and surveyed in order to measure indicators of empowerment. The results show that the educational program offered by CUAM allows elderly students to acquire management skills, feel that they belong to community, and participate in other community projects.
