In the international practice, self-assessment is carried out within higher education. This is taken as an instrument for the continuous improvement of the substantive process of its entities and universities. This research characterizes self-assessment with an approach to the science, technology, and innovation system with the aim of establishing the premises for the realization of a methodology that allows establishing best practices in this sector.
