Resumen

GOMES DE ASSUMPCAO FILHO, Uranis  y  DA COSTA SILVA, Wellington. Application of formulations of Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis SH-14 against Aedes (S) aegypti. Rev Cubana Med Trop [online]. 2004, vol.56, n.3, pp.163-166. ISSN 0375-0760.

The effficacy of 3 formulations of Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis SH-14: BACTIVEC; G and WDG was evaluated in 4 districts of the municipality of Nova Iguacu, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, that had high levels of Aedes (S) aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) infectation and represented a high risk for dengue transmission. After the inital use of these 3 biolarvicides, weekly postreatment surveys were done to evaluate its permanence. The location of ovitraps in each district allowed to detect the slowest index of positivity in the district where Bactivec was used (x2 = 29.40; p= 0.000). This biolarvicide made possible the highest reduction of the house index (95.4 %) with a permanence of 62 days (x2 = 35.34, p= 0.000). The participation of the community of Botafogo district, where these results and the slowest percentage of closed houses (Z= 13.11; p= 0.000) were obtained, was significant.

Palabras clave : Aedes aegypti; biological control; Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis SH-14; community participation.
