Resumen

GARCIA MENENDEZ, Gissel et al. Possible relationship between mast cells and platelets in dengue infection. Rev Cubana Med Trop [online]. 2014, vol.66, n.1, pp.152-157. ISSN 0375-0760.

Introduction: the possible role of mast cells in the pathogenesis of dengue infection has been speculated upon for years, due to its broad distribution in tissues. However, the role of mast cells in relation to dengue infection has not been explored properly. Objective: evaluate the behavior of platelets in Balb/c mice, deficient in peritoneal masts cells, in which secondary infection is reproduced. Methods: the behavior of platelets was evaluated in an animal model based on Balb/c mice in the presence or absence of peritoneal mast cells. Results: results show a significant decrease in platelets, associated to the presence of mast cells (p= 0.0155). Conclusions: results suggest a possible pathogenic role of mast cells in dengue infection.

Palabras clave : dengue; mast cells; platelets; pathogenesis.
