Abstract

OBREGON FUENTES, Ana Margarita. Laboratory advances about human leptospirosis in Cuba, 1989-2016. Rev Cubana Med Trop [online]. 2017, vol.69, n.3, pp.1-18. ISSN 0375-0760.

In Cuba human leptospirosis is a condition of an endemic-epidemic, cyclic-seasonal nature. Technological advances introduced into the country have made it possible to expand knowledge about the causal agent in Cuban provinces, carry out interventions in the epidemic outbreaks which have occurred during years, and offer information strengthening the National Prevention and Control Program and the clinical assays for the Cuban vaccine vaxSPIRAL®. The paper summarizes aspects of interest related to laboratory surveillance, as well as the results of some of the studies conducted in the period 1989-2016.

Keywords : leptospirosis; leptospira; diagnosis; vaccines; serogroup; serovers.
