ALVAREZ GARCIA, Alejandro et al. Cuban report on the behaviour of immunoglobulins M, G and A in the course of HIV infection and their relation with absolute CD4+ T lymphocyte count. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2002, vol.18, n.2. ISSN 0864-0289.

To evaluate the behaviour of immunoglobulins (Igs) in HIV-positive patients and their usefulness as markers of the progression of the infection, IgM, IgG and IgA were quantified in sera from seropositive patients and the CD4+ T lymphoid subpopulation. The studied population was divided into 3 groups of 50 individuals according to the absolute CD4+ T lymphocyte count: group 1 (³ 500 cel/µL), group 2(200 a 499 cel/µL) and group 3 (<200 cel/µL). It was observed in the study that the levels of immunoglobulins increased as the number of CD4+ T lymphocytes reduced. The mean of IgM values was within the range of normal values for the 3 groups of patients; the mean of IgG values was over the normal range in the 3 study groups whereas that of the IgA values was over the normal ones only in group 3, which is a useful indicator of the infection staging. Also, a direct relation was observed in the increase of immunoglobulins but there was a reverse relation between Igs and the absolute CD4+T lymphocyte count
