PEREZ, Lázaro del Valle et al. Effect in vitro of Spirulina on the immune response. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2002, vol.18, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2996.
Spirulina is a Cyanophyceae alga used as a food additive and as a drug for its medicinal properties. This paper was carried out to evaluate the effect in vitro of Spirulina (Spirel, Génix, Ciudad Habana, Cuba) in 14 healthy donors of the Hematology and Immunology Institute by using lymphoblastic transformation tests with tritiated thymidine, expression of HLA-DR and CD-25 activation antigens by the immunocytochemical ultramicromethod and the formation of active rosette. In blastic transformation, there were no statistically significant differences under the experimental conditions with or without spirulina whereas statistically significant differences were found when applying Student´s t for paired samples under the experimental conditions with or withour spirulina, both in the expression of activation antigens and the formation of active rosette. It is concluded that spirulina produced at national level has an effect in vitro on the activation process of human lymphocytes
