Introduction:

Training is considered the most important tool available to health organizations for the training and updating of nursing professionals.

Objective:

To characterize the current state of the performance of technical nurses in the care of patients with hematological diseases at the Institute of Hematology and Immunology.

Methods:

Descriptive and cross-sectional study at the Institute of Hematology and Immunology, between July 1st, 2021 and July 30th, 2022. A survey was applied to 35 technical nurses, performance observation was carried out through a guide to identify the main difficulties in the care of patients with hematological diseases. Descriptive statistics, distribution of absolute and relative frequencies were used.

Results:

Of the total sample, 57.2% had less than five years of graduation; the course and the workshop predominated as forms of improvement; 65.7% have not received training courses in the last five years and 51.4% have professional improvement needs. Insufficiencies were evidenced in the indicators related to participation in decision-making (71.4%), knowledge about hematological diseases and their complications (57.1%), self-preparation (54.3%), execution of techniques specific and invasive procedures (42.9%).

Conclusions:

the diagnosis made made it possible to identify the learning needs of technical nurses, with a view to designing a training process to strengthen the practice of care in patients with hematological diseases.
