OLIVA LINARES, José E et al. Enfermedad cerebrovascular: comportamiento en el Hospital Docente Dr. Salvador Allende durante 1997. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2001, vol.20, n.3, pp. 197-201. ISSN 1561-3011.
A sample of 1 022 patients admitted in the "Salvador Allende" Teaching Hospital in 1997, of whom 897 had cerebrovascular disease, was studied. Medical histories and the necropsies performed were used as main sources for the study, whereas the manual processing, with frequency distribution with the utilization for the calculation of the arithmetical mean was used for the statistical analysis. The results obtained were shown in tables. The fundamental parameters studied were: age, risk factor, type of cerebrovascular disease and evolution. The protocols of the necropsies were also reviewed to verify the vascular damage found. It was observed that arterial hypertension (AHT) is the most frequent risk factor in all cases, that the incidence of cerebrovascular disease is the highest in patients over 65 and that mortality is higher among patients with cerebral hemorrhage
