Resumen

GALLARDO, Marlén et al. Relación de la alteración espermática en el líquido seminal con algunos metabolitos del estrés oxidativo. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2003, vol.22, n.2, pp.90-94. ISSN 0864-0300.

The initial relation existing among some altered parameteres in the seminal fluid with alcoholism and smoking, as well as their association with some metabolites of oxidative stress, was studied. 40 patients aged 20-45 that were seen at the infertility office of the National Institute of Endocrinology entered the study with previous informed consent The relation of alcohol and smoking with the alterations of the seminal fluid was assessed. Mobility, morphology, total count of spermatozoids, pH, aspect, consistency, leucocytospermia, spermatic viability and seminal biochemistry according to the World Health Organization, and some metabolites related to the mechanisms of oxidative stress, were included within the seminal parameters. The frequencies of each variable were determined for the statistical analysis, the means were compared by Student’s t test and a one-way varianze analysis was made. Among alcoholic men it was observed a higher association with the alterations of the seminal parameters than among smokers. It was concluded that there is a relation among the alterations of the seminal fluid that is more frequent in alcoholics, as well as in patients with some type of seminal infection, where the relation with albumin was statistically significant, which was not observed in other studied metabolites.

Palabras clave : SEMEN [drugs effects]; SMOKING; ALCOHOLISM; OXIDATIVE STRESS.
