Resumen

FONTE GALINDO, Luis et al. Sobrediagnóstico microscópico de amebiasis intestinal: evaluación de una intervención en la provincia de Cienfuegos. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2003, vol.22, n.3, pp.173-179. ISSN 0864-0300.

In a study conducted in the province of Cienfuegos, it was demonstrated that the microscopic examination of feces was associated with a marked overdiagnosis of intestinal amebiasis. The results of the surveys done among the laboratory technicians having to do with the microscopic diagnosis of this parasitosis, and to those in charge of the laboratory, proved that the overdiagnosis may be connected with cognitive, technical and organizational deficiencies. To contribute to the improvement of the microscopic diagnosis of intestinal parasitism, in general, and of intestinal amebiasis, in particular, a series of actions were taken in this province. After a year, a second survey was done that showed a significant improvement of the surveyed technicians in all the evaluated cognitive aspects. However, the surveys applied to the lab technicians and to the personnel responsible for the laboratory demonstrated that most of the technical and organizational deficiencies detected before the intervention still exist.
