A retrospective, descriptive, and comparative study was carried out on the conventional treatment and on the use of hyperbaric oxygenation in 40 patients presenting with keratitis at the General Hospital of Santiago de Cuba from December, 1993 to March, 1994 with the aim of evaluate the efficacy of this therapeutic modality in such disease. Findings were as follows: working women were found to be the most affected; subjects who were treated with hyperbaric oxygenation had a better evolution in a short period of time, and that regarding social security, a 75 % less was paid in this group in comparison with the other.
