The development achieved during the last years in the attention of cardiacs is stressed. A descriptive and retrospective study of 51 pregnant women attended at the Perinatology Service of the "Tamara Bunke" North Maternal Hospital, in Santiago de Cuba, during 1994, was conducted aimed at assessing the importance of the nurse´s work during the pregnancy, delivery and puerperium of these patients. It was concluded that thanks to the special care given, the heart disease did not influence on the maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality rate, mothers´ complications were minimal, and there were no deaths.
