Resumen

CASTRO ORTIZ, Zenaida. Estrategia de trabajo en la central de esterilización durante la epidemia de dengue. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 1999, vol.15, n.1, pp.39-43. ISSN 0864-0319.

It was conducted a descriptive and retrospective study of the expenses in materials, equipment and human resources resulting from the attention given to patients with dengue at the General Hospital of Santiago de Cuba during 1997 that allowed to establish differences between the normal consumption and what the epidemic required. The expenses produced by the diagnostic tests services were analyzed and it was proved that the expenses at the Sterilization Department increased under abnormal conditions, such as those of the epidemic period. As the services of priority care and diagnostic tools were the most affected, it is necessary to have a well-trained personnel at the Sterilization Department to carry out their work with quality and accuracy, and without unnecessary delays so as to guarantee the optimal attention of the great number of patients coming to the hospital. The breakages of materials were generally due to the active participation in the direct attention to the patients of personnel from other units that did not have the same discipline maintained at the hospital, and due to the incorporation of medical and nursing students from different levels.
