Abstract

The basic criterion of the educational policy of the state has the aim of forming the new generation, training the technicians and developing fully their intelectual, physical and spiritual potencial; for this reason a descriptive, retrospective and longitudinal study was performed in the Northern and Southern maternal hospitals as well as in "Dr. Joaquin Castillo Duany" army hospital of Santiago de Cuba province, with the purponse of specifying the results in the training of the students of the Nursing postbasic courses from 1991 to 1996. The group was formed by 415 students, being tyhe largest number in the Intensive Care speciality. The data were tabulated manually and the percentage was used as a measure of summary. There was prevalence of the female sex and the age group of 25-27 years old. From 1993 to 1996, there was an increase in the results obtained in the final comprehensive exams. Among the educational activities hygienization and blood donations stood out. The training of this staff contributed to increase the quality of the work in the health team and therefore the improvement of the health services in the all the levels of care as well.
