A retrospective study was conducted among 192 pregnant women from whom a sample of 120 from "La Palma" health area was taken as a sample. These women were admitted in "La Palma" Maternal Home during January 1998-1999. Their knowledge about the advantages of breast feeding, its positive influence on mother and child, the correct postures to breast feed the infant, as well as other details that give us an appropiate idea of how prepared they are to face this situation with their future children were studied. It was proved that there is a direct relationship between the educational level of these women and their knowledge of this topic. The occupation and residence of the mother were also associated with the duration of breast feeding.
